A 74-year-old woman presented with a firm flat scar-like growth at the corner of her left mouth (left photo, top). A skin biopsy revealed a deeply invading basal cell carcinoma skin cancer. The cancer was successfully removed in 3 stages using Mohs micrographic surgery to achieve the highest cure rate but remove as little normal skin as possible (left photo, middle). To preserve her lip function and cosmetic contour, facial plastic reconstructive surgery was used to repair the surgical wound the same day as Mohs (left photo, bottom). 6 months after her procedure, her lip is well healed, cosmetically appearing, and fully functional.
